As Toyota has been a well-known brand for such a long time, there are a large number of Toyota enthusiasts out there who own a variety of different Toyota models. There are people who enjoy restoring and owning “project” cars, where their whole intention is to make their Toyota look like new. Others enjoy taking theirs to track days and giving other drivers a run for their money! It’s only right that we try and catch up with some of these enthusiasts and show off their cars.
This weekend we caught up with Rob Scott, who owns a superb example of a Toyota Supra.
“The Supra, every time I turn the key I know I am driving something really special”
Rob is an avid enthusiast of Toyota cars and he enjoys taking his to drag days (see some videos below!) Rob has enjoyed a variety of fast sporty cars over the years and he’s also very into his heavy metal music, gadgets and computers! He likes to buy solid, clean and well maintained cars and then keep them in tip top condition, both cosmetically and mechanically. The latest is his incredible 400bhp turbo Toytoa Supra, which is still in showroom condition. He enjoys taking it to drag days and showing people what it can do – but it’s also a very precious car to him and he claims to be “very OCD about cleaning it!”

A brief specification of the car is as follows:
- Toyota Supra GZ Twin Turbo 3.0 Litre (2JZGTE)
- Blitz Intercooler
- Uprated 255 Litres Per Hour Fuel Pump
- K&N Panel Air Filter
- 1.0 bar Boost Restrictor Ring
- Tanabe Medallion Racing Exhaust
- AEM Air/Fuel Ratio gauge
- HKS Fuel Cut Defender
- Greddy Boost Gauge
- Greddy Exhaust Temp Gauge
- TRD Strut Brace
- OEM Sideskirts (optional extra)
- Bomex Front Bumper
In the future, along with keeping the car in immaculate condition, Rob plans to fit a boost controller for even more Horsepower, and to keep all the power in check on the track, he plans to fit larger brakes too. Rob also has some larger 18″ alloy wheels that are set to go on the car soon to complete the look; these are currently being re-furbished in black and will be ready for the summer! And for those Drag racing meets that Rob likes to attend, he’s planning on buying a dedicate wheel and tyre setup which should see his Quarter mile times drop even further!
“After selling the Cosworth I bought the Mondeo as a sensible car as I used to travel 20 miles to work but after 2 years of not owning a performance vehicle I had the urge to purchase another. In 2009 I started looking for what I wanted. The RS even though I would have had another was a car I had already owned so I decided to look for something different and decided it had to be Japanese. I was looking at Evo’s, Impreza’s, Skylines or the Toyota Supra. I was looking every day on Pistonheads and various import specialist websites to find the right car for me. After months of looking I decided on the Supra which was by far the best choice. I joined the UK forum http://www.mkivsupra.net/ and started looking through the classifieds. Due to the nature of the Supra (very rare) I was advised to be able to travel to find the right car. After many months of looking I found a car that fitted my requirements. Low owners, low miles, lots of history, cosmetically excellent and well maintained. I travelled down to Essex to view the car in December 2009 and collected it in January 2010. Supra owners always say you will never forget your first ride home in a Supra! That was so so true, I was grinning from ear to ear with heads turning all the way back to Derbyshire up the M1. The reason I went for the Supra over the other makes were the Supra’s build quality, performance and tuning capabilities, reliability, and of course the looks! It was an exceptional design for the time (93) and still was in production in (02) so ten years of production, and still looks fantastic today, where others look dated.”
“The Supra, every time I turn the key I know I am driving something really special, a car that was ahead of its time and still keeps up with modern Supercars of today at a fraction of the price. I still grin ear to ear and believe me is a real driving experience. This is my first Toyota but I have always wanted to own an MR2 or the newer Celica. Build quality of Toyota is excellent and as this 18 year old Supra will testify stands the test of time. My Supra is modified enough for me but there are lots of examples of big horse power cars out there! Even up to nearly 1300bhp!! The Supra is a legend of a car and you can spend on them as much as your wallet allows modifying them, or like me just maintain the services and maintenance, which will stick the power to 400 bhp. The Supra is just at home on the streets as it is on the dragstrip/racetrack. I would want to own a 2002 facelift model at some point and would also like a non turbo manual variant as a trackday/drift car….. maybe in the future.”
Here are a couple of videos of the car in action at Santa Pod:

Update – There’s a rumour that Toyota are working on a new Supra for 2015, which will be a hybrid sports car capable of 0-62mph in just over 4 seconds. Find out more here.
